Interview and Jam with I.Am.Tru.Starr
In this podcast, I have an insightful conversation with Rochester-based hip hop artist (singer and rapper) I.Am.Tru.Starr, who released his most recent EP, "hair like basquiat" in September. We discuss his music, his personal outlook, himself, and his message of overcoming the struggles of modern life, all in anticipation of his event "Trapsgiving."
Interview and Jam with I.Am.Tru.Starr
On November 9th, Tru invited me over to his place in Rochester near Lyell Avenue to discuss himself, his music, and anything else.
We began the visit chatting for about an hour, before the official interview even started. We began by discussing himself mostly, but we slowly transitioned into many topics, including the influences of R&B and the blues in his music, and how the a cappella revolution started by The Persuasions in the 1960’s lead to the rise R&B and Boyz II Men in the 90’s.
He’s a very interesting guy, so I’ll let him talk about himself from here on out!
We concluded the interview playing our version of Nat King Cole’s Calypso Blues:
